Starting card load
Load 4–6 cards to start. The four top pockets and two hidden pockets are cut to a firm tolerance. Forcing more cards in early puts stress on the stitching before the leather has had a chance to settle.

Does Shell Cordovan stretch?
Not the way calf or bridle leather does. Shell Cordovan is a dense, non-porous membrane — it does not stretch much or balloon out. What it does is soften and conform. Over the first few weeks of carry, the pockets will relax to the exact profile of your card stack and your preferred carry style, becoming noticeably easier to load while still holding cards securely.

Do the pockets permanently stretch?
Yes. It's a natural material; the little stretch it does take on will be permanent.

How to avoid overloading
The sweet spot is 4–8 cards (Two cards per pocket, but not recommended). Beyond 8, you risk stressing the hand-stitched seams. Receipts, folded paper, and oversized cards are the usual suspects; keep those out of the card slots. If you carry cash, the two hidden pockets can handle a few folded bills without adding bulk.

General care during break-in
No conditioning is needed during break-in — Rocado Shell Cordovan is finished at the tannery and arrives ready to carry. Use Saphir Cordovan Cream with a soft buffing cloth on all Shell Cordovan goods.
